HISTORY OF THE ASSOCIATION

Whilst attending the 1991 Annual Submarine Coxswains Meeting and Dinner at HMS Drake, four of the Coxswains, namely Shaun Henry - Roscoe BEM, Colin Way, Barry Jenkins and the late "Arry" Harrison, decided they would attempt to form a Submarine Coxswains Association. From then Barry advertised in Navy News etc with the intentions of forming an Association and kept a record of everyone who was interested. Contacts were made eventually with many of the ex-serving Coxswains both in the UK and abroad to gauge level of support.
Eventually, an inaugural meeting in October 1993 at HMS Dolphin. The meeting was attended by approximately fourteen ex-Coxswains and one Australian Coxswain who was on exchange duties in HMS Dolphin and with the backing of the Serving Coxswains, the Association was "born". Officers and Committee were "press ganged" in to service from those present.
During the first six months of the Association existence, 77 members were recruited. Since then the membership has steadily increased to its present strength of 135 members. These members are scattered throughout Great Britain, but there are also members in Australia, Canada , Spain, New Zealand, and South Africa.
Annually, the Association hold its Annual General Meeting and dinner on a rotational basis at HMS Drake/Raleigh (Plymouth) and HMS Neptune (Faslane).
Committee Meetings are held at 2000hrs on the third Thursday of the month in the WO and SRs Mess, Fort Blockhouse. All members are welcome to attend.
